| Woodcarving,
woodturning and stained glass
Bob started carving in 1985 under the tutorage of George Swaysland, a well respected traditional carver resident in Sussex. He is a member of Sussex Woodcraft Society where his interest in woodturning first began seeing other members’ work and what could be achieved. He has exhibited his carvings and woodturnings in the Sussex Woodcraft Society Exhibitions and since 2004 has exhibited in the Open House Studios with his wife Pauline. Bob has tried to combine turning and carving in the same pieces. After attending a course on the art of stained glass he is now combining this with his woodworking skills, with pieces being displayed at the last three Open Studios. An example of this, in the form of a phoenix rising from the flames as a firescreen, can be seen on the website. In 2008, and this year, 2009, Bob has been invited to exhibit his woodturnings in the Brighton Fringe Open Studios in Hove which is held in May. This proved to be very successful and an enjoyable experience for the last two years. Unfortunately, the venue is not available this year, but the good part is Bob will have more time to concentrate on new work for Open Studios, Burgess Hill. Hope to see you there. |
