Mike Wallace at 37 Crescent Road
Mike works primarily in textiles, both fabric and threads. His work includes tapestry weaving and fabric collages, as well as combining the interest in textiles with another in bookbinding. He also works with metal.

“I enjoy experimenting with colour and texture, and textiles are an ideal medium for this. I find a real challenge in combining different media, such as the contrast of hard cold metal with soft threads and fabric.”
“I take inspiration from both geometric forms with their inherent symmetry, and also from the more irregular shapes of the environment (both natural and man-made) around us.”

Recent work has continued themes in exploring industrial landscapes (see ”Container Port”) and a piece inspired by the sinking of the wood carrying boat MV Ice Prince in January 2008 – an event which left many beaches on the south coast covered with mountains of timber (see “Left on the Beach”). I am currently also exploring the theme of tranquility (see “Reflections”)
