Nick Taylor at 2 Willow Cottages off Maple Drive
Art and crafts have always been part of my life but like so many of us, our hobbies have to take second place to work.
After 25 years in specialist medical engineering in the NHS, a change in career brought me closer to my hobby when working in education in special schools in art and design and technology.
Early retirement in 2007 now offers me an opportunity to spend my time dedicated to scroll and fretwork which I would describe as a highly diverse art form in respect of both subject matter and materials.
2009 will be my second year in taking part in Open Studio and for those who are not familiar with this art form it would be an ideal opportunity to see for yourselves.

Wildlife scenes of both native and from around the world are influenced by my childhood days growing up in the heart of the Surrey country side and my ultimate ambition to visit the continents of Africa and Australasia.
Fretwork designs from the Victorian era are probably my favourite but judging by recent commissions, Art Deco, Celtic and Oriental designs also appear to create great interest.
3D/ lateral locking puzzles always create great interest and present a challenge to both children and adults alike.
Creating educational toys comes from my past association with education but also regular contact with a close friend’s little boy who I have seen growing up from day 1 and watched in amazement with his development and the constant appetite to learn.

2009 also brings new projects and the completion of my new studio which without question has become my second home.
